If you’re not the type who wants big blowup spiders in your lawn and fake bloody corpses in your home for Halloween, then you’ve come to the right place. My approach to Halloween decor is simple, tasteful, and as non-cheesy as possible.

I shared my curated shopping list of elevated Halloween decor in this post and this post, but I wanted to show some of the items in action in my own home.

First things first, if I could recommend one singular Halloween item to buy for your home, it would be these bat wall decals. I’ve used them in my house two seasons in a row, and they don’t disappoint. You can display them above a bar cart, on your mantel, above an entryway console table, on your front door, or truly anywhere! As an alternative to the bats, you could also use these fun black butterfly wall decals. Did I mention both these wall decals are under $10 on Amazon Prime?

Another cheap swap to add an effortless spooky vibe to your home? Black tapered candles for under $15 on Amazon. You can score the set of 3 black candlesticks at Ikea for under $15 as well. I use the candlesticks year round with white candlesticks, then simply swap for black during spooky season.

I love to use seasonal branches and flowers to add an understated Halloween touch as well. The previous photos are centerpieces I’ve created over the years — all of which were sourced from Trader Joe’s. I am partial to dried lavender, baby’s breath, and/or any branch or floral with deep moody hues. You can’t go wrong with a deep purple or wine red arrangement this time of year.

If you’re looking to spend zero dollars, then forage branches from your yard just as the leaves are starting to turn. Athena Calderone of Eye Swoon, aka the foraging queen, has a genius article on her website about creating sculptural arrangements out of branches.

I hope seeing how I styled my Halloween decor gave you at least a smidge of inspiration for your own homes. Just remember you don’t need to go overboard to add a tasteful Halloween touch. Grab a skull or two, black candles, bat or butterfly wall decals, seasonal florals in black vessels, and maybe a pumpkin or two, then you’re golden!
