Please tell me you were a cool enough kid growing up to understand and appreciate my Clue reference (aka one of the best board games of all time). Despite being a murder weapon, candlesticks can serve as a great addition to your dining room tablescape.
And, yes, every dining room table should have a tablescape. It doesn’t need to be something elaborate, especially considering you’re eating at this table and would like to gather with friends and family around it.

In my case, I have a circular tulip table from Ikea, so I chose a black marble, circular tray to ground my centerpiece. I think it does a great job making the space look cohesive because it mirrors the shape of the table. I do not have a link since it was passed down from my grandparents, but I found a very similar black marble tray under $30 at Crate & Barrel. I think my grandma used the marble tray to protect their countertops from hot pots and pans, but it really can be used for anything so get creative! I think it would be fun to utilize the stone tray as a charcuterie board when hosting guests or as a styling piece on your coffee table. Personally, I have used it as a mini cake stand as well. Point is…buy less, buy quality, and repurpose your items!
If you have a square or rectangular table, then I would opt for a square or rectangular shaped centerpiece. I think it makes the space look more cohesive, and it makes my type A brain happy. For instance, if you have a long rectangular table, then a long wooden trough wood look great in the center with decorative marble balls. Target sells a Studio McGee faux moss centerpiece that would look great as well. That’s not to say you shouldn’t incorporate circular items. I think it would look great if you did one larger bowl in the very center with two smaller bowls flanking the sides. CB2 has a gorgeous white pedestal bowl that would make for the perfect centerpiece, although a little pricey. Target sells a very similar option for only $30 that I own myself, and the quality is great. Adding decorative bowls or some beautiful flower arrangements to either side will elongate your table and make your centerpiece look to scale. Nothing looks worse than having some long 12-foot table with a tiny, sad vase in the middle. Proportion is key, so the bigger the table, the bigger the centerpiece.

Another must for your tablescape? Flowers, of course. I buy mine at Trader Joe’s, and they are actually super affordable. I’m partial to white roses, but they have a lot of great options. I can’t afford to have fresh flowers out all the time, so please leave a comment below if you’ve found any realistic faux flowers.
If you’ve been paying close attention, then you probably noticed some of my pictures have the eucalyptus and others have the three candlesticks. I just wanted to show a couple different options for how I typically style my table. I buy my eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s as well and it’s really reasonably priced. I bought one bunch for my tall skinny vase, and I believe it was only $2.99.
When I don’t have any eucalyptus on hand, I love styling with the three candlesticks because I think the varying heights add some nice dimension. Don’t forget to buy the candles themselves. I bought mine from Ikea, and they sell a similar 3 candlestick set that I love even more.

Last but not least, a dainty Diptyque candle is always the perfect finishing touch. If you are interested in spending too much money on a boujee candle, my favorite scent is Narguilé, and it came in a 5-piece travel size Diptyque set during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Personally, I think that’s the best time to stock up or figure out which Diptyque scents you like best.
I hope you enjoyed! Leave your questions and comments below.
